Apr 11---The Winfield Elementary School will host their Spring Fling on Thursday April 11th 5-8pm. There will be a bouncy house, cake walk, games and fun and entertainment for the whole family. Light refreshments will be available. Admission is $1. This is a fundraiser for the school
Apr 12---The Marion County Relay for Life id drawing near. This year's event will be April 12th at the Hamilton Walking Track. The American Cancer Society theme is Dream BIG, Hope BIG, Relay BIG. Donations may also be made to the team of your choice at the event website by using your debit/credit cards. The Relay begins with a survivor dinner hosted by Northwest Hospice of Alabama beginning at 4pm in the Hamilton High School cafeteria. Events at the tract will begin at 6pm with the survivor lap following opening comments and prayer. The Ceremony of Hope which honors and remembers those affected by cancer begins at 9pm. The lighting of the regular luminarias will be followed this year by the launching of special sky lanterns which are a new feature of this year's Ceremony of Hope. Luminarias will be sold for $5 each and you may purchase them from any Relay team member or at the track prior to the Ceremony of Hope. Sky lantern luminarias may be purchased for $12 each. Apr 13---Last year we raised over $5000 for St Jude Children's Research Hospital, and this year we want to raise even more! It's the 2nd Annual Mechelle Henderson 24 to Curtain...Participants will be locked in the Winfield Elementary School at 7pm on Friday April 12th. They will then have only 24 hours to write and rehearse an all new 30 minute play. The curtain goes up at 7pm on April 13th for this once in a lifetime performance. Don't miss it! Admission is a $10 donation for adults, $5 for school age kids, and kiks under 5 get in free! Help us honor the memory of our dear friends Mechelle Howell Henderson and Kenneth Jackson by supporting 24 to Curtain and the kids at St Jude!
Apr 15---The AARP Tax Aid Volunteers are preparing taxes again this year at the Fayette Civic Center. This is a FREE service to the public. They are there every Friday 9am-3pm. You must bring a picture ID, social security cards for all family members, all tax related items and last year's tax return. For info call 932-6445
Apr 18---Winfield Elementary Kindergarten registration and clinic will be Thursday April 18th at the Elementary School auditorium at 8:00am...Students must be 5 years old on or before September 2, 2013 in order to attend kindergarten...Please bring: The child, Copy of the child's official birth certificate [not the one given to you as a souvenir from the hospital], Original blue immunization card, and A copy of Social Security card...Parents and the child should come to registration even if the child has not received all the immunizations so the child can go through the clinic and be enrolled for the next year...If you cannot come to registration, please call the school at 487-2305 to add the child's name to the list for next year. Apr 25---The Lynn Church of God is hosting the Community Evangelistic Extravaganza on most Thursday evenings throughout March and April. Everyone is welcome to attend services t 7pm and intercessory prayer at 6:30pm. The church is located one block south of Traders and Farmers Bank in Lynn on Alabama Highway 5. Apr 27---The City of Hamilton will have a We Love Hamilton Clean Up Day Saturday April 27th [rain date Saturday May 4th]. All volunteers meet at the Hamilton United Methodist Church where there will be a FREE Hamilton Lions Club pancake breakfast from 6-8am. Cleanup will be held after breakfast. Bring gloves, safety vests or hats, water and buckets...Garbage bags will be provided. Also a citywide curbside cleanup with free curbside services will be April 29-May 3rd where residential customers in the city limits can have free pick-up of unwanted items around your home. This includes household furniture, appliances, water heaters, mattresses, rolled up carpet, large toys, empty refrigerators, empty freezers, brush limb [less than 8 feet long and less that 6 inches in diameter]. May 2---The Hamilton Civitan Club members are pre-selling Vidalia onions. Purchase 10 pounds for $11 from any Civitan member or call Pat Duke at 921-7435. Onions will be picked up at First Naitonal Bank Main Office on May 2nd. Proceeds will be used to support local community projects
Jun 1---Mac McAnally will be in concert at the historic PastimeTheatre in Winfield on Saturday night June 1st at 7pm. Doors open at 6. Mac McAnally is a song writer, producer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and all around musical sage. He was named the CMA Musician of the Year for the past five years in a row and has been inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. He has written songs including "Back Where I Come From", "All These Years", "Old Flame" and may more for Hank Williams Jr, Kenny Chesney, Alabama, Jimmy Buffett, Reba McEntire, Randy Travis, and others. He currently tours with Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band. Tickets are $30. The show is sure to be a sell-out, so get your tickets early. Dinner will offered at 5pm for an additional $15.
